Are We Going in the Right Direction?

Realigning Life For True Success (Fouzul Azeem)

right direction

“Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter – We increase for him in his harvest. And whoever desires the harvest of this world – We give him thereof, but he will have no share in the Hereafter.” (Surah Ash-Shura 42:20). We live in a world that’s more connected, informed, and advanced than ever before. Every day, our lives are filled with constant movement — we scroll, we chase, we plan, we execute, we earn, and we celebrate. But amidst this loud and chaotic race… have we paused for a moment to ask: Are we truly going in the right direction? Or have we been swept away by a current that seems productive but is, in fact, pulling us far from our real destination?

The Illusion of Progress

Today, we are surrounded by influences that appear to offer growth and success — be it mainstream media, social platforms, our peer circles, or even our closest relationships. They shape how we see the world, how we define success, and what we pursue in life.

But if we truly reflect, much of it is pulling us toward temporary pleasures, superficial validation, and short-term wins — while we silently drift further from our true purpose: preparing for the Fouzul Azeem — the Ultimate Success — which is the pleasure of Allah SWT and salvation in the Hereafter.

The Decline That Feels Like Progress

We wake up, run through our day, chase goals, complain, gossip, overeat, overthink, scroll mindlessly, and sleep — only to repeat the cycle. In this “busy-ness,” we rarely stop to question:

  • Why am I doing what I do every day?
  • Is my lifestyle aligned with the Akhirah?
  • What am I doing to prepare for death — a reality that is approaching regardless of my age or achievements?

And when things go wrong, we rarely look inward. Instead:

Blame Without Accountability

Often, when life doesn’t go the way we planned, we look outward for someone to hold responsible.
We say:

  • “If only my parents had supported me more…”
  • “If my spouse understood me better…”
  • “If the system wasn’t so broken…”
  • “If society wasn’t so judgmental…”

Instead of pausing to reflect on where we went wrong, we place the burden of our failures on the shoulders of others.
It becomes easier to blame than to admit:

  • “I lacked discipline.”
  • “I procrastinated.”
  • “I gave in to distractions.”
  • “I didn’t ask Allah sincerely for guidance.”

This mindset is not only unfair to others, but it also robs us of growth. When we externalize the cause of our struggles, we strip ourselves of the power to change.

But Islam teaches us the opposite: to begin change from within.

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)

We raise children without direction, pursue careers without values, consume content without filters, and live lifestyles without reflection.

And yet, we wonder why our hearts feel empty.

The Realignment Begins

This blog series is not just a critique of society. It’s a gentle wake-up call — for you, for me, for all of us — to take back the steering wheel of our lives and realign our direction toward that which truly matters.

The Fouzul Azeem (the Ultimate Success) is not found in likes, luxuries, or labels. It is found in:

  • A heart that remembers Allah.
  • A home that breathes sincerity and purpose.
  • Children raised with consciousness of their Creator.
  • A lifestyle that mirrors the Sunnah.
  • An ummah that lives with vision and accountability.

What to Expect in This Series
In the coming weeks, we will explore together, one episode at a time, the deep issues that have subtly derailed our course:

  • The deceptive influence of media
  • Family dynamics that cloud spiritual clarity
  • The autopilot lifestyle of heedlessness
  • Parenting that lacks purpose and tarbiyah
  • Education that builds careers but not character
  • Neglect of our environment and communal responsibilities
  • Lack of sincerity in action, worship, and intention

Each post will not only uncover a pressing concern, but also offer spiritual insights, practical advice, and heartfelt reflection to help us return to what truly matters.

It’s Time to Pause and Reflect

If something in your heart feels unsettled…
If you’ve been running but don’t know why…
If you feel like you’ve achieved much but gained little…
Then this series is for you.

Because the greatest loss is not in failing to reach worldly goals,
But in succeeding at everything — except preparing for the Day when nothing but our deeds will matter.

So let’s ask ourselves, sincerely:

Are we going in the right direction?

Let’s begin the journey back home — to meaning, to purpose, to Allah SWT.

We’d Love to Hear from You:

How do you reconnect with your purpose amidst all the noise of life?
